Germany - GoalkeeperTilkowski, Hans
A commanding German goalkeeper, Hans Tilkowski was a classic old-school number one: brave, alert, physically strong and built around reliability rather than spectacle. He had excellent reflexes, a firm presence on crosses and the kind of serious penalty-area authority that made defenders trust him without needing a committee meeting. Best remembered internationally for the 1966 World Cup final, and yes, for that goal, poveraccio, he was far more than one controversial moment. With West Germany and Borussia Dortmund, he showed consistency, courage and leadership, becoming one of the most respected German keepers of his generation. Not a modern distributor, not a showman, but a proper guardian of the box. Solid, stern, and very difficult to shake.
