A tactically disciplined Argentine defender, Jorge Olguín was a centre-back at club level who became a highly reliable right-back for César Luis Menotti’s Argentina. That dual identity defined him well: more defensive and structured than a flying full-back, but cleaner and smarter than a simple marker. With San Lorenzo, Independiente and Argentinos Juniors, he built a long domestic career based on concentration, timing and positional seriousness. For Argentina, he was a starter throughout the 1978 World Cup, playing every minute of the victorious campaign, which is not exactly a decorative detail. He was not spectacular, not especially adventurous, but he gave balance, defensive control and calm authority to teams with bigger names around him
