A refined Dutch midfielder with a clean touch and excellent passing range, Wim Jonk brought order, rhythm and technical quality to the centre of the pitch. He was not a destructive ball-winner or a spectacular number 10, but a cultured organiser who could receive under pressure, move the ball intelligently and connect defence with attack without unnecessary drama. At Ajax, Inter and PSV, he showed the typical Dutch ability to think in passing lanes, using vision and composure more than physical dominance. For the Netherlands, he was a useful and elegant presence, capable of dictating tempo and adding calm structure around more explosive talents. His long-range shooting also gave him an extra weapon, especially when opponents allowed him too much space.
