A strong and technically educated Argentine centre-back, Martín Demichelis was a defender with the habits of a midfielder and the authority of a classic marker. Developed at River Plate and matured at Bayern Munich, he combined aerial power, clean passing and tactical courage, often stepping forward to break lines or protect midfield spaces. He was not always the quickest defender, and in open-field situations he could suffer against explosive forwards, but his reading, personality and ball-playing quality made him valuable in demanding systems.
