Artur Correia had the profile of a right back who belonged to a more modern game than the one around him. Quick, balanced and technically clean, he could defend with aggression, support attacks with confidence and give Portugal a flank player who was not limited to marking and clearing. Benfica offered the main stage, especially in the early 1970s, when European football was asking full backs to think faster and cover more ground. Later, Sporting added another layer to a career that remained highly respected despite being cut short far too early by serious health problems. He was not a glamorous winger in disguise, nor just a hard defender. Correia's value was in the blend: pace, timing, ball security and tactical courage. A sharp, intelligent right back, remembered by many Portuguese observers as better than his wider fame suggests.
