Italy - Centre-backRosato, Roberto
Roberto Rosato defended with the seriousness of a man who treated every duel as a personal audit. Strong, concentrated and uncompromising in contact, he was a centre back and marker with excellent timing in tackles, good aerial presence and enough technical security to survive inside Nereo Rocco’s Milan without looking like a purely destructive defender. His peak coincided with one of the club’s strongest international cycles: the 1968 Cup Winners’ Cup, the 1969 European Cup and the 1969 Intercontinental Cup, where defensive reliability was as important as Rivera’s invention or Prati’s goals. Rosato was not a libero who wanted to conduct from deep, and he was not a graceful attacking defender. His game was marking, anticipation, physical courage and clean defensive execution. With Italy, he belonged to the Euro 1968 winning squad and the 1970 World Cup group, a defender built for matches where one mistake could define a tournament.
