Belgium - Goalkeeper Piot, Christian
Christian Piot belonged to the old school of goalkeepers who were judged first by presence, courage and reliability under repeated pressure. At Standard Liège, he became a long term reference, combining sharp reflexes, strong positioning and a calm command of his area in one of the strongest Belgian club environments of his era. His style was not based on modern distribution or sweeping far from goal, but on reactions, handling, aerial security and the ability to stay mentally stable in matches where the goalkeeper could spend long minutes waiting for one decisive intervention. For Belgium, he carried major responsibility through the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the 1970 World Cup, at a time when the national team was rebuilding its international credibility. Piot was not a spectacular showman. He was a serious, technically solid goalkeeper, remembered for consistency, bravery and the authority he gave the defensive line in front of him.
