Oleg Kuznetsov

Kuznetsov was one of the defensive pillars of Lobanovskyi’s Dynamo Kyiv in the mid-1980s, combining physical authority with the mobility required by a high, collective defensive line. In the 1986 Cup Winners’ Cup-winning side and with the USSR at Euro 1988, he operated as a centre-back who could defend aggressively without losing positional order. His game was direct, powerful and tactically sober: no theatre, just elite-level Soviet defending with the door politely slammed shut.
