A complete and tireless Soviet right-back, Volodymyr Bezsonov was one of the great defensive athletes of his generation. Fast, disciplined and technically secure, he could defend aggressively, support attacks with intelligent timing and cover huge distances without making the role look chaotic. At Dynamo Kyiv, he became a key figure in Valeriy Lobanovskyi’s demanding system, where stamina, tactical obedience and technical quality were not optional extras but survival requirements. With the Soviet Union, he brought the same reliability across several major tournaments, playing with intensity, concentration and real competitive authority. He was not a glamorous Brazilian-style full-back, but a modern, powerful and highly functional one. A
