Uruguay - Right BackCáceres, Martín
A manager looking at Martín Cáceres rarely saw one fixed position. He saw emergency cover, defensive aggression and a footballer prepared to suffer wherever the structure needed him. Right back, centre back, left back, wing back in a back three: Cáceres moved through roles with the same restless competitiveness that defined his career. Barcelona, Juventus and Uruguay all used different versions of him, and the common thread was always intensity, duelling courage and tactical usefulness. Injuries interrupted him too often to let his club career become fully continuous, but they never erased his value as a high level defensive survivor. He was not a polished builder like the great modern ball playing centre backs, nor a pure attacking full back. Cáceres was edge, coverage and adaptability, the kind of defender coaches trust when the match becomes uncomfortable.
