Austria - GoalkeeperZeman, Walter
Long before Austria's goalkeeping tradition became a niche argument for football historians with too much coffee, Walter Zeman had already set a very high standard. Nicknamed Tiger, he was an agile, commanding and spectacularly brave goalkeeper, known for reflexes, aerial courage and the ability to produce saves that seemed to arrive from pure instinct. Rapid Vienna gave him his club identity, while Austria gave him the international frame, especially during the strong post war years that culminated in the 1954 World Cup generation. He was not just a line keeper, and not simply a romantic old name from sepia photographs. His presence, reactions and competitive authority made him one of Europe's most respected number ones of his time. Zeman was a goalkeeper of spring, nerve and personality, the kind whose reputation deserves more light than it usually gets.
