Scotland - Striker Reilly, Lawrie
Lawrie Reilly’s numbers still feel severe, even before nostalgia gets involved. A sharp, instinctive striker from Hibernian’s famous forward line, he attacked the box with explosive timing, strong finishing and an unusual ability to score decisive goals for Scotland. The nickname “Last Minute Reilly” was not decorative; it came from repeated late interventions that turned international matches, including important goals against major opposition in the Home Championship era. At club level, his partnership within the Hibs “Famous Five” gave Scottish football one of its great attacking units, built on movement, combinations and ruthless penalty area habits. Reilly was not a target man in the heavy physical sense, and his career was shortened by injuries, but his scoring rate and match winning instinct place him among Scotland’s most dangerous forwards. Small in frame, huge in impact, he was a striker of timing, nerve and cold finishing.
