Klas Ingesson gave midfield a form of honest force that rarely needed decoration. Tall, hard working and tactically dependable, he was a central midfielder who could protect space, attack second balls, press with long strides and add presence in both penalty areas. His career moved through Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Italy and France, but the strongest collective image remains USA 1994, where he was part of a Swedish side built on organisation, athletic discipline and direct transitions. Ingesson was not a playmaker in the elegant sense, nor a midfielder who controlled games through delicate passing rhythm. His value came from coverage, aerial strength, ball winning, late runs and the ability to make a team feel physically harder to play through. Useful, brave and extremely competitive, he belonged to that category of midfielder whose importance becomes clearest when he is missing.
