France - Centre MidfielderGuérin, Vincent
There was a period in the mid 1990s when Vincent Guérin looked like one of the most complete midfielders in France. Compact, mobile and technically reliable, he could press, tackle, carry the ball, combine at speed and arrive in advanced zones without abandoning the centre. His PSG years were his highest point, with the 1994 league title, domestic cups, strong European campaigns and the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup giving substance to his reputation. France Football naming him French Player of the Year in 1995 was not a decorative award; it reflected a midfielder who brought influence in several phases of play. He was not a pure number 10 and not a holding specialist, but a true two way midfielder with stamina, personality and clean execution. Guérin’s peak was short of global superstardom, yet within French football of that decade he was genuinely high class.
