Viktor Chanov

Chanov belonged to the later Lobanovskyi era, when Dynamo Kyiv demanded a goalkeeper who could survive long phases of concentration and then react instantly under pressure. He was not merely a line keeper: his value came from reading crosses, controlling the six-yard box and giving the back line a stable reference behind an aggressive collective press. In the 1986 Cup Winners’ Cup campaign, his calmness fitted perfectly into a team that defended through structure before relying on heroics.
