Tactical Verdict
Germany are not the most romantic team in the set, and that is exactly why they are so dangerous. They do not rely on one mood, one rhythm or one genius catching fire. They are built to survive different kinds of football.
Beckenbauer is the great organiser of the whole idea. With him, the defensive line is not simply protected; it becomes a platform. He allows the team to step forward, reset possession, absorb pressure and change the angle of the game without panic. Behind or around that, the goalkeeper tradition from Kahn to Neuer gives Germany another layer of authority.
Matthaus turns the midfield into a pressure engine: athletic, vertical, tactically literate. Then Gerd Muller supplies the brutal final clause. Germany do not need thirty touches to justify an attack; they can turn a cross, rebound, cutback or loose ball into something terminal.
From a psychological point of view, this XI looks built for the late stages of tournaments. It tolerates ugly passages, fatigue, hostile momentum. The limitation is that it may not always produce the expressive beauty of Brazil, Netherlands or Argentina. But if the game becomes a contest of durability, decision-making and punishment of errors, Germany are exactly where they want to be.
