A spectacular and charismatic Turkish goalkeeper, Rüştü Reçber mixed elite reflexes with a fearless, almost theatrical command of his penalty area. He was not the calm modern distributor who builds from the back with a glass of wine in hand, but a pure shot-stopper with explosive reactions, strong presence and the personality to dominate big moments. At Fenerbahçe and with Turkey, especially during the extraordinary 2002 World Cup run, he became a national symbol: intense, brave, sometimes dramatic, but rarely forgettable.
