Wilfried Puis

Six league titles with Anderlecht tell you immediately that Wilfried Puis belonged to a dominant domestic machine, but his value was not only collective decoration. Playing mainly as a left winger or outside forward, he gave the team natural width, quick changes of pace and a direct route into the final third during the club’s powerful 1960s cycle. His game depended on acceleration, crossing, movement outside the full back and enough goal threat to prevent defenders from treating him as a simple supplier. Puis was not the most internationally mythologised Belgian attacker, partly because his era offered fewer global stages and because Anderlecht remained the clearest frame of his career. Still, for that club, he was a repeated title winning weapon on the flank. A wide forward of rhythm and incision, useful not through grandeur but through constant left side pressure.
