A sublime Georgian playmaker, David Kipiani was one of the most elegant creative talents in Soviet football. Tall, graceful and technically refined, he played as an attacking midfielder with the freedom of a second striker and the intelligence of a true number 10. At Dinamo Tbilisi, he became the artistic leader of a brilliant side, dictating rhythm through dribbling, passing range and a rare ability to make complex football look natural. He was named Soviet Footballer of the Year in 1977 and later helped Dinamo win the 1981 Cup Winners’ Cup, giving Georgian football one of its great European nights. His USSR career was shorter than his talent deserved, but his club legacy is enormous.
