How his football thinks

Menotti's football placed the player at the centre. He valued imagination, control and personality, but never as empty decoration. The ball had to circulate with meaning, the forward line had to offer rhythm and threat, and the team had to carry a sense of identity. His best football was romantic, but it was not soft.

The Menotti profile is high on technical focus, mental emphasis and attacking tendency. His teams preferred talented midfielders, expressive forwards and a degree of positional freedom, especially when the ball reached the creative zones. Defensively, he was less associated with extreme pressing or obsessive compactness than with balance, courage and the capacity to keep playing under pressure. His Argentina could be emotional and imperfect, but it carried a clear footballing soul.
